Building Inspector

South Ogden City is seeking a skilled professional for the position of Building Inspector.  This position examines building plans for compliance with uniform building code as to construction, building type, occupancy, fire protection, and location of lot; verifies plans to conform to city ordinances; makes corrections for errors on blueprints; discusses and explains ordinances and codes to concerned home owners and contractors; assumes authority and responsibility for plan corrections as to conformance to city ordinances and codes.

Incumbents visit building sites or existing buildings to perform inspections including zoning, yard location, footing, foundation, frame, wiring, plumbing, and heating to assure compliance to building codes and ordinances.

This position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and at least two (2) years of experience performing the above duties.  The incumbent must be ICC and State of Utah Certified Building Inspector in residential and commercial specializations.   

The starting hourly wage for this position is $24.56 $29.93 per hour based upon experience and qualifications plus an excellent benefits package.

In the absence of qualified candidates, South Ogden City reserves the right to under fill the position.  The minimum qualifications for under filling the position are a ICC and State of Utah certification in at least two residential inspections at time of hire and certification in all commercial inspection areas within 12 months of date of hire.  The hourly wage for under filling the position will be $21.56 - $23.81 per hour based on experience and certifications.

Police Officer I-III

South Ogden City is accepting applications for a full time Police Officer. Applicants must be a US Citizen, and have a High School diploma or equivalent, a valid driver's license, and current Utah POST Certification. Candidates must pass a stringent background check, drug screen, and a psychological evaluation. A college degree and prior law enforcement are preferred but not required.

Candidate must possess ability to prepare clear and concise written reports, communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, analyze dangerous situations rapidly and accurately before taking safe effective action, enforce federal, state and municipal laws and work with the public in a courteous respectful manner.

Work conditions may present high stress and threat to personal safety during periods of search and seizure and arrest. Incumbents may be exposed to toxic materials, have to deal with unruly or dangerous individuals, unsafe building sites and may have to use deadly force. Incumbents may also be required to extend work schedule during emergency situations.

Starting salary will be between $19.64 and $26.04 per hour plus an excellent benefits package.  This position is open until filled.

Crossing Guard

This part time position observes road traffic to determine best timing for road crossings; admits children and pedestrians into designated crossing locations; escorts children and pedestrians as needed to assure safe crossings; acts defensively when anticipating on-coming vehicles. Reports to assigned location at pre-determined times; turns pedestrian traffic lights on and off; sets out safety cones; wears and uses required safety apparel and equipment; reports faulty and/or malfunctioning lights, apparel and equipment to supervisor; clears snow or debris from walkways to ensure safe, unobstructed passage.  Starting pay is $10.40 - $11.00 per hour based on qualifications and experience.
